What you'll find here

Right now, we’re fixing statistics.

Statistics is chapter one, not the whole book, but it’s the chapter every dissertation gets graded on, so that’s where PsychSimplified starts.

The flagship

StatTest Selector

Your study design in, the exact test out, with the APA 7 write-up and a justification your supervisor will accept. Five questions, no statistics jargon.

Sound familiar?

Choosing the test is the part nobody teaches properly.

You collected the data. You can run SPSS. But one decision sits between you and your results chapter, and most students make it by anxious guesswork.

“Is my data normal enough for a t-test?”

Asked at 1 a.m., three days before the proposal deadline.

“My supervisor says justify the test choice.”

The textbook chapter assumes you already know the answer.

“ChatGPT gave me two different answers.”

Generic advice can't see your design, your scales, or your sample.

The fix

Five plain-language questions. One exact recommendation. A justification you can paste into your proposal.

How it works

From research question to results chapter, in five steps.

No textbooks. No second-guessing. Every analysis walks the same guided path.

  1. 1

    Describe your study

Simple questions about your goal, design, and data. No stats knowledge required.

  2. 2

    Get your test

The exact test for your design, with the why, the pitfalls, and the backup if assumptions fail.

  3. 3

    Copy the APA write-up

A fill-in-the-blanks APA 7 results template, ready to paste into your dissertation.

  4. 4

    Run it in your software

Exact SPSS and jamovi click-paths (JASP works too). Click what it says, done.

  5. 5

    Check power & assumptions

A G*Power walkthrough for sample size, plus a numbered assumption checklist.

Try it live

Play with the decision tree. Right here.

This is a small slice of the real selector, three of the five questions. The full app also handles repeated measures, factorial designs, categorical outcomes, and assumption checks.

Open the full selector
1 · What is your goal?
2 · How many independent groups?
3 · Is your data approximately normal?

Your test

Independent-samples t-test

Two independent groups, a continuous dependent variable, and approximately normal distributions in each group point to the t-test.

APA 7 template

t(58) = 2.31, p = .024, d = 0.60

If assumptions fail

Mann–Whitney U (if normality or outliers are a concern)

Free vs Pro

Everything you need, nothing you don’t.

Every analysis is complete, the recommendation, the reasoning, the APA template, the software steps, and the power analysis. Free gives you 3 full analyses; Pro simply removes the limit.

  • Mastery Drills bank (all units)

How the Dissertation Pack will work

Run your study through the StatTest Selector. It tells you exactly which tests your research needs. Then pick those 3 test units and learn only what your dissertation and viva demand. (Each test unit covers a parametric and non-parametric test, so 3 units = 6 tests.)

Why the Full Course will go further

Your viva examiner will not limit questions to your three tests. “Why didn’t you use Kruskal-Wallis instead?” is a real question externals ask. The Full Course is the safer viva preparation, and it adds the APA write-up templates you’ll paste straight into your results chapter, plus direct doubt support from your instructor.

FAQ

Questions you’re probably thinking.

Can't I just ask ChatGPT which test to use?

You can, but StatTest Selector is built specifically for psychology dissertations. It knows your exact design constraints, checks your normality assumptions, gives you the APA template, the G*Power path, and a supervisor-ready justification. ChatGPT gives you a generic answer. This gives you a defensible one.

Is the free tier actually useful or just a teaser?

Genuinely useful. Every free analysis is complete: the test recommendation, the full explanation, the APA write-up template, SPSS/jamovi steps, and the G*Power guide. You get 3 full analyses free. Pro doesn't unlock hidden features. It simply removes the limit, which matters once you're iterating on your design or helping coursemates.

What if I'm on JASP, not SPSS or jamovi?

JASP and jamovi share an almost identical interface and menu structure, so the jamovi steps work for JASP with minimal adaptation. Both are free, and we note this inside the app.

I'm an undergraduate. Is this suitable for me?

Absolutely. The tool is designed for UG dissertation projects as much as postgrad ones. The explanations avoid unnecessary jargon, and the free tier covers everything a standard UG project needs.

Will I get charged again automatically?

Never. There's nothing to cancel because there's no subscription. Pro is a prepaid pass: ₹99 buys 3 months. When the time runs out you simply drop back to the free tier. We don't store any payment method, so we couldn't auto-charge you even if we wanted to.
